Need for Instructional Designers from Higher Education
to Participate in a Research Study
A doctoral student from Capella University in the School of Education is undertaking a PhD study to
learn about what is involved for instructional designers when they design
instruction for and work individually
with a higher education faculty member (subject specialist) who is learning how
to create a course for online delivery.
The purpose of
the research
study is to
provide a general description of what is involved for instructional designers
when they design instruction for and work individually with faculty members who
are learning to create an online course so
that novice or experienced instructional designers can inform or improve their
practice for this type of instructional design work.
Qualifications
for participating in the study are as follows:
·
Participant has a Master’s or PhD level of
instructional design or instructional design and technology
education and 10 years of instructional design experience
in the field, regardless of the setting or context.
·
Participant is currently employed in
an institution of higher education and has five or more years’ experience working with individual faculty members
(subject specialists) who are learning how to create an online course.
·
Participant would
be willing to participate in a 45-60 minute, audio recorded, telephonic
interview with the researcher. During the interview, the participant
would describe in his or her own words what the practice of instructional
design involves when designing instruction for and working individually with
faculty members (subject specialists) who are learning how to create a course
for delivery in the online environment.
·
Participant must
be willing to take part in follow-up communications with the researcher through
the exchange of emails or telephone calls in order to
a.
Validate the
researcher-prepared verbatim transcript of the telephonic interview held with
the participant by reading through the transcript and making any changes on the
transcript that the participant believes should be made to the transcript as
prepared (add, take out, or make changes to any part of the participant’s
dialogue within the transcript).
b.
Read and reflect
upon the researcher’s prepared research report that depicts the essence of this
type of instructional design work.
·
Participant would
need to have access to a secure and private telephone or Skype account for
participating in the one-to-one telephonic interview with the interviewer.
·
Participant would
need to have access to a secure and quiet location for the purposes of
participating in the one-to-one telephonic interview with the
interviewer.
·
Participant must
be 18 years or older to participate in the study.
If you
are interested in sharing the
details of your experience with
this type of instructional design work, please contact Mary Hudgins at
m.hudgins@comcast.net letting her
know of your interest to participate in the study.
Provide a phone number by which I may contact you to discuss your
qualifications to be in this study as well as a private email address to allow
me to send you the Electronic Letter of Informed Consent form that gives you
more detailed information
about the study and
your part in it.
Information gained during the interview may be published,
but
the researcher will ensure
that no interview participants are identifiable. The researcher gives
a guarantee that all research
participants will remain
anonymous.
