The Sloan-C Certifcate
Program
For teaching and improving
online courses
The Certificate Program prepares educators to teach and
improve online courses using the Sloan-C pillars of quality in online
education—learning effectiveness, scale, faculty and student satisfaction, and
access. A unique feature of the certificate program is that expert mentors work
individually with each certificate candidate to accomplish specific goals. The
certificate consists of a 9-week foundation course and a variety of electives or
learning specializations that focus on improving overall competency within a
specific area of academic focus. The Sloan-C
Certificate program offers eight different specializations:
- Accessibility
- Administrative Practices
- Blended Teaching and Learning
- Design and Delivery
- Mobile Learning
- Social Media
- Tools and Techniques
- STEM
The workshops in each specialization are structured to encourage
skill development and practical application within the participants' specific
job function. Upon completing the 9-week foundation course, individuals can
select three individual electives in one specialization, or multiple
specializations that best suit professional development objectives.
The June cohort had a record breaking 81

"The Online Teaching Certification
program was an extremely helpful series of online courses that provided me with
tools and best practices to take online teaching to a higher level. I have made
great connections with professional contacts and industry experts that I
continue to correspond with, despite having completed the program. The
individual workshops culminate into a unique program that provides a refreshing
academic body of knowledge about online instruction that has amazing practical
benefits and applicability, regardless of the size and focus of your
institution." - Shelly Nice Zimmerman, Senior Instructional
Designer, Centenary College, NJ
“The workshops offered in
the Sloan -C Online Teaching Certificate enhanced my knowledge of online
learning and pedagogy from a faculty perspective, which aided my role in course
development and review. The freedom to select the topics to study allowed me to
cater the certificate to fit my goals. As an added bonus, the certificate
enhanced my credentials as an instructional developer and educator. Just a year
later I was offered a new position with a significant raise, due in part, no
doubt, to earning this certificate.” - Elizabeth Fisher,
Instructional Design Manager
